In May of 2020, long-time friends Tammy Mansell and Angela O'Brien opened Altamont Vintage in the former location of Bryant Antiques on Swannanoa River Road with the help of their adult children and some knowledgeable antique dealers. Over the next four years, they opened a second location in their building and then a third warehouse location just across the river to invite even more dealers to join in.

In September of 2024, our region suffered historic flooding caused by Hurricane Helene. Our two buildings, each within 100 yards of the Swannanoa River, were among those affected; both were flooded and thousands of items were lost. At this time, Tammy needed to focus on her other family business and she stepped away from the Altamont team in December. In 2025, Angela brought her daughter Lucy in as co-owner. All three women spent months alongside their dealers sifting through the mud and debris to recover as many of these special items as possible. Almost a full year later, Altamont re-opened in August 2025 in the newest of our three locations, 224 Mulvaney Street.
